FIRST World Championship - Houston, April 2022

Our Dean's List Finalist goes to the FIRST World Championship!

Mom of the team, co-coach / team cook on weekends, prohibitor of waffling and slacking, and most enthusiastic fan of Team Forces Unknown. 

"The students who earn FIRST Dean’s List Award status as a Semi-Finalists, Finalist or Winner, are great examples of student leaders who have led their Teams and communities to increased awareness for FIRST and its mission. These students have also achieved personal technical expertise and accomplishment." 

This was such an amazing year for team #16267 Forces Unknown. 

Our very own team co-captain, Lulu G., was invited to the FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship in Houston, Tx, as recipient of the BC Dean's List Finalist Award, along with fellow Dean's List Finalist Award winner Grace from Meadowridge Team, and  1st and 2nd place BC Champion Teams, Parabellum (16031) and Fix It (3391).

She was able to visit other teams and see amazing, unique robots, attend the Championship Innovation Faire, talk to amazing representatives from organizations like NASA and Disney Imagineering - and visit the FRC area! 

It was an awesome experience! 

There were lots of highlights for sure: 

• Getting to see Dean Kamen, the Founder of FIRST (presenting at the Dean’s List Award Ceremony). 
• Meeting the teams from Romania, Libya, the Netherlands, Israel, Nigeria, and Mexico, and more international teams! 
• Watching the FTC matches live at the Championship was truly a sight!
• Working as a volunteer was also tons of fun! 

When asked to sum up what she liked the most about attending the Championship, she said "the best experience gained from the World Championship was getting to meet other FIRST students from all over the world, people from other countries, and other Dean’s List Finalists. Interacting with others who are passionate about FIRST and STEM really helped create a sense of comradery and community even amid the competition stress in the air."

The team hopes to be able to experience all this and more next season, which will be the last for a few of our graduating members!
